The Bauer Sisters Candy Delicatessen

Stranger, perhaps, than any lunar voyage or make-believe war was the Candy Delicatessen. This astonishing concern sold–and the list is worth running in its entirety– “Sauer Kraut, Frankfurters, Pork Sausages, Winter Bologna, Liver Pudding, Ham Bologna, Salami, Cervelat, Breaded Veal Cutlets, Pork Chops, Fish Cakes, Sweet Potatoes, New Spuds, Fruits and Vegetables, Cheese, Deviled Crabs, Deviled Clams, Fried Oysters, Chicken Croquettes, Meat Balls, Plum Pudding and a great many others too numerous to mention, all made of pure candy.”

The Bauer Sisters Candy Delicatessen–pictured and described above–was an attraction that graced Coney Island’s Luna Park from 1907-1910. Oddly enough, it was not the only of its kind; Heppe’s Candy Meat Market also sold candies shaped like meat at Luna Park, from 1906-1917.
